Following two hugely successful on-farm events in 2023 and 2025, NSA Northern Ireland Region is delighted to welcome you to NSA SheepNI 2027, a fun and informative afternoon and evening out for the whole family!

Taking place on Tuesday 6th July 2027 from 1pm - 8pm at AFBI Hillsborough in Co. Down, this is your chance to experience the very best of Northern Ireland's sheep farming industry.

NSA SheepNI 2027 is hosted by the Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute (AFBI) at its Hillsborough research farm, a globally respected centre of excellence in livestock systems. Alongside an extensive range of trade and breed society stands, NSA SheepNI 2027 offers a packed programme of workshops and seminars, invitation-only sheepdog trials, speed shearing competitions and catering, ensuring there is something for everyone to enjoy.

About our host: AFBI Hillsborough

AFBI Hillsborough has been at the heart of agricultural research in Northern Ireland for a century. The site was bought by the Government of Northern Ireland in 1926, and became home to the Agricultural Research Institute of Northern Ireland in 1927 – the same year Harry Ferguson demonstrated his new tractor plough there. It became part of AFBI in 2006 and celebrated 100 years of research in 2026.

Today, research at AFBI Hillsborough spans cattle, sheep, pigs and poultry, grassland and forage, soil health and nutrient management, genetics, animal health and welfare, and climate resilience. Its sheep research focuses on improving flock health and performance through nutrition, breeding and management; reducing the environmental impact of sheep production; managing upland habitats; and protecting quality across the food supply chain. The site also has state-of-the-art facilities for measuring greenhouse gas emissions from sheep production systems.

NSA SheepNI 2027 is a unique opportunity to see this work first-hand and hear directly from the scientists whose research supports sheep farmers across Northern Ireland.
